Clarence Thomas: From Pinpoint to the Supreme Court

Early Life and Education

Clarence Thomas was born on June 23, 1948, in Pinpoint, Georgia, a small town near Savannah. He grew up in poverty and attended segregated schools. Despite facing numerous challenges, Thomas excelled academically and went on to attend Yale Law School, where he graduated with honors in 1974.

Legal Career

Thomas began his legal career as an assistant attorney general for Missouri. He later served as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. In 1991, President George H.W. Bush nominated Thomas to the Supreme Court. His confirmation hearings were highly controversial, involving allegations of sexual harassment. Despite the controversy, Thomas was confirmed by a narrow margin and has served on the Court ever since.
